Project Specs:

Project Name: Christmas Mountain Pump Project Project
Manager: Tony Mathweg
Type of service: Provide and install new pump station
Where: Wisconsin Dells, WI
Date completed: 11-2019

What was the Problem?

Christmas Mountain is a sprawling golf and ski resort located just west of Wisconsin Dells. It is a 16-slope downhill ski and tubing park in the winter and a 27-hole championship golf course for the rest of the seasons. It’s not hard to imagine the amount of water needed to create snow and keep the golf course irrigated.

The existing pump station on the grounds couldn’t keep up with the demand and a new pump station was needed. Already having a pump house meant any new pump station would have to fit inside the already established confines.

Increasing the Capacity

Christmas Mountain had a goal in mind for the rate they needed their new pump station to produce water. They were looking at an increase of nearly 50% in gallons per minute (gpm) and 25% in pounds per square inch (psi).

Below are the snow making and golf course irrigation rates for the old vs. the new pump station.

Old pump station:

  • Snow making - 800 gpm and 300 psi
  • Golf course Irrigation - 1,000 gpm and 125 psi

New pump station:

  • Snow making – 1,500 gpm and 400 psi
  • Golf course irrigation – 1,500 gpm and 125 psi

Pumpstation Professionals Gets it Done

Already having an established relationship, Christmas Mountain knew exactly who to reach out to when they needed someone to complete this project. Pumpstation Professionals had the knowledge and experience to choose and install the best pump station for the job.

The steps taken to complete this project required us to lean on our own relationships. We worked closely with Motor Controls Inc, Dallas, Tx to build the pump station and J.F. Ahern, Fond du Lac, WI to safely connect the piping and electrical power supply to the pump station.

Here is what we accomplished together:

  • Pumpstation Professionals sent project to Christmas Mountain for approval
  • Motor Controls Inc. assembled new pump station
  • Motor Control Inc. shipped new pump station to Wisconsin Dells
  • Pumpstation Professionals removed old pump station and installed new pump station
  • J.F. Ahern and Pumpstation Professionals finalized piping connections
  • Start-up and testing performed

Pumpstation Professionals was able to deliver a new pump station that both increased Christmas Mountain’s capacity and met all of their needs. In addition, we set-up a preventative maintenance program to keep the pump station running smoothly. This project strengthened a relationship between two companies that had already started working on their next project together.
